ABOUT
Christelle de Castro was raised in Pittsburg, California located in the Bay Area. She began shooting in 2004 under the guidance of filmmaker and mentor, Eigo Todoroki. By 2005 Christelle began showing her work throughout San Francisco and in 2006, she was flown to New York for her debut solo exhibition, The Fools Gold Collection. At age 21, she was the youngest artist to be presented by The Showroom NYC.
Christelle became recognized for her black and white street photography, portraiture, and lightbox installations. She began photographing bands, which lead to photographing tours - the most memorable being Hey Willpower's UK tour of '06.
In 2008, Christelle revitalized Bottle Capp Gallery (SF) as resident artist and curator, a non-profit space where emerging artists could sell work and take home every penny.
Christelle relocated to New York City in 2009 and developed the online brand image & marketing strategies for Opening Ceremony Worldwide before its highly anticipated webstore launch. Christelle was Director of Photography and Head Photographer for Opening Ceremony for over 2 years, having launched, creative directed, managed, and shot for 3 unique e-commerce sites for OC: Openingceremony.us, ACNE Studios NYC, and Opening Ceremony at Ace Hotel.
Today Christelle is a full-time multidisciplinary artist, commercial photographer, photo director, & creative consultant. In the past year she has collaborated with artist Richard Phillips on a private commission, and was recruited by artist Collier Schorr as Producer for her recent major campaign.
At the moment, Christelle is piecing together a collaborative book with photographer Sunny Shokrae, running her studio 3XTELLE, developing Studio Magazine with artist / curator Katerina Llanes, shooting for her photo column, DISPOSABLE, for DIS Magazine, and heavily YouTubing in between.
